CAPITALISM RULES!
Okay okay, so maybe thats a little extreme in some circles, but hey - back in the 70's the Japanese knew a good thing when they saw it and took that opportunity to rival and even maybe improve upon the original - at the same time, doing it less expensively...of course thats not just about guitars...except what we're looking at here....
The PRESERIAL 1974 Ibanez Custom Agent. It features an arch birch top with fancy intricate pearl inlays, a hard laminated birch neck with adjustable truss rod, bound ebonized rosewood fretboard with uniquely attractive mother of pearl inlays, traditional mandolin shaped scroll style peghead headstock with a the fancy and more-sought after urn headstock inlay, gold smooth-tune star machine heads and hardware, a three way pickup selector switch, two volume knobs and two tone knobs as well as coil taps switches to help create additional tones from the creme Super 70 pickup at the bridge and the black DiMarzio at the neck.
Lightweight, it plays and sounds incredible. It has been gigged by a professional musician that handled it with as much care as possible. You'll notice in the photos that the back is pretty clean and smooth with hardly any buckrash, but as are we, it is not without a few bumps and bruises too. Some of the binding has cracked along the neck and chipped off and there are a couple of skins across the base of the body. The neck joint is clean and smooth, but there is an area that is worn; possibly by something rubbing against the finish. The gold plating on the hardware has been played away as expected and there is one dimpled dingle on the face of the body
Its noted inside the wiring cavity that in 1995 the guitar was professionally rewired adding the coil taps and the dimarzio. It otherwise appears to be original. The owner did not have the other original super 70 to give me, nor the cool gold loopy style debossed pickup covers (as you probably know, it was pretty popular to go coverless in the early 80's) I expect 80 percent of these still out there have had the scroll piece on the headstock bumped off and reglued...including this one. A poor and fragile design for an incredibly playable guitar (boo-boo ibanez!).
This is one sweet guitar you'll want to have in your arsenal...just ask Sly Stone...he use to rock one!
